Will Neel
Will attended the University of Oklahoma City where he played
collegiate golf from 1979 to 1983 and earned a B.S. degree. Upon
graduation he played professional golf from 1983 to 1986 it was during
these years that he attempted P.G.A. tour school 4 times coming within
two strokes of securing a Tour Card for the 85' season. Will retired
from competitive golf in the fall of 1987. After retiring from
competitive golf Will went to work as a golf professional at the Lake
Nona Golf Club in Orlando, FL. He had the privilege of observing some
of the game's greatest instructors and players such as Harvie Ward with Payne Stewart, John Redman with Paul Azinger, and John Jacobs and his VIP schools.
It was at Lake Nona that Will developed a relationship with David Leadbetter
and was given a new dream. "I was ready to leave golf all together and
become an elementary school teacher, when David had a talk with me, and
inspired me to try teaching."The rest is history. Will began his career
as a full-time golf instructor. While working with David, Will was made
the Director of the Junior Golf Division, which produced numerous Junior Champions by the likes of Charles Howell III-OSU, Camillo Benedetti-Florida, Ty Tryon- youngest player PGA, Ryuji Imada, Celeste Troche, Marisa Baena, and Julietta Granada. He also had the privilege to work with top tour players such as Nick Price, Nick Faldo, and many others.
In 1996, Will left David Leadbetter Golf Academy to start his own academy, the Will Neel Golf Academy
in South Florida and developed the pilot golf programs for Hope
Worldwide, a non-profit charity, to teach golf and his values to
inner-city youth in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas. Today the the
Academy is known as the South Florida Junior Golf Tour Foundation and is owned and operated by Joel Vogel, PGA Professional.
Will and his family moved to Southern California in 1998, to open another Will Neel Golf Academy at
Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas, CA. His academies and teaching
philosophy have produced numerous players that have went on to play at
Major Universities and Professional Golf Tours.
